Dorothy Ann Albert 74 yrs. of Mesa, AZ passed away on May 15, 2012 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born in Chicago, Illinois on December 11, 1937 to Charles and Dorothy Ferguson. She was professional country and western singer who started performing at the age of 4. Her father entered her in multiple talent contests, which she always won. When Dorothy was young she was known for her song "I Didn't Know the Gun Was Loaded". She won the Howard Miller Teen Contest when she was 16 years old and won a recording contract with Kernel Records. After that she went to Mercury Records. Dorothy was a regular on the WGN Barn Dance in Chicago, IL. Her most well known hit was " Happy, Happy, Birthday Baby" which she recorded in 1956. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her love story with Richard was magical and they had 54 wonderful years together. Their anniversay was May 3, 1958. They were each other's love, friend, soulmate and confidante. She will be greatly missed. Dorothy is survived by her husband Richard; daughters Debbie Gardner and Wendy Smith; son Richard Albert; grandchildren, Jason Schnittker, Jenna Schnittker, John Hammond, Madison Cain, R.J. Albert, Brittany Albert, Paul Albert, Eric Albert, Mary Albert; great grandchildren, Teegan Sambell, Blake Kowalczyk Schnittker, Kaelyn Kowalczyk Schnittker, Casen Kowalczyk Schnittker, Arianna Albert, and McKenna Albert; sisters June Ferguson, Betty Schultz, Cheryl Jordan; brothers Stanley Ferguson, Ronald Ferguson. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother David Ferguson and grandsons Parker Cain and Nolan Smith. Funeral Service will be Friday, May 18, 2012 at 2:00 PM in Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel 6747 E. Broadway Rd. Mesa, AZ. with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
