Dorothy Huggins Blanton, 93, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at Charlotte Health Care Center. The first of nine children of the late Lonnie Odell Huggins and Lattice Brown Shelton Huggins, she was born in Gastonia on January 6, 1919. Her love of art and beauty was apparent in her life and her paintings. It showed even brighter in her love of her family, her friends and her Christian faith. She never met a stranger.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 29th in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Service, 4601 Freedom Drive with the Rev. Gary Baldwin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service.
Mrs. Blanton is survived by a son, Joseph M. Blanton, Jr. and wife Tracey, of Derwood, MD; a daughter, Shelly Massey and husband Mike, of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Eric Blanton and wife Malina, of Clarksburg, MD and Kara Massey, of Charlotte; a brother, Jimmie B Huggins, of Belhaven; two sisters, Mary Lee Helms and Nan Szwed, both of Sanford, and three great-grandsons, William, Sebastian and Logan.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Blanton was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Marion Blanton, Sr., in 2001.
