Dorothy Louise Gillum Phelps passed to her place in heaven on February 10, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dorothy was born July 27, 1924, to Lillian Kuhn Gillum and Conaway G. Gillum in Fort Worth, where she grew up and graduated from Paschal High School. On Dec. 5, 1941, she married the love of her life, Asa L. Phelps, who served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Their first child, Patricia L. Phelps Tarola, was born in Florida in 1943 while Asa was in the service. They returned to Fort Worth where they lived the rest of their lives and raised two additional children, daughter, Linda K. Phelps Salazar, and Phillip E. Phelps.
Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a loved, admired and respected friend to many in her church and community. Her home was a favorite gathering place for parties and celebratory events for her family and multitude of friends. Dorothy worked as a teacher's aide and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for over 10 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the National Association of Letter Carriers, and the United Methodist Women. She remained an active contributor to her church, Handley United Methodist.
Dorothy loved life and people and helped create wonderful memories on which she loved to reflect. In return, she was loved by many.
The family's thanks go to Ginger, Allie, Shawna, Sierra and Sharon of Community Hospice.
