Darlene and Dennis Alsdorf announce with deepest regret and profound sadness the death of their beloved son, Drew, on Thursday July 3rd.
Born in Reading, Pa., June 13th 1983, he grew up in Oley and then Wyomissing, where he was a graduate of Wyomissing High School.
He attended the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, PA. Drew graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kutztown University, and he gave up teaching to become Pharmacy Manager at Penn Pharmacy at 9th & Penn.
Known by our Spanish customers as "Lo Bonito," he was a beautiful person inside and out. Always there to help the patients get their prescriptions approved, he would go out of his way to battle the insurance companies to see that they got their medicine. He was always there to council them and answer their concerns. In this world of givers & takers, he was a giver.
Drew was a "Guardian Angel" to his 93 year old grandmother and his sister, Megan. When I heard that he had to carry his sister over a long distance, I asked him how he could accomplish this, and he replied, "she's not heavy, she's my sister."
Drew wrestled in high school, and was on the varsity football team. He enjoyed playing badminton tennis and pickle ball and playing the piano, which he did well. He loved misic, and his favorites were classical and classic rock. Movies and video games were his other passions. Very witty, he loved telling jokes, and kept us laughing at the drug store and at family gatherings.
It was an honor and privilege to work side-by-side with him these past few years. Drew is deeply mourned by his survivors: life-partner, Ashley Glidewell; his sister, Megan Butcher; his paternal grandmother, Kathleen Alsdorf; his maternal grandfather, Emil Fekete; aunt, Cynthia Falter; aunt, Valeria Hutchinson; and especially his parents, Darlene (Fekete) Alsdorf and Dennis Alsdorf.
Please join us for a Celebration of Drew's Life on Thursday, July 10th, 2014 at 12 noon in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading. Burial to follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be 10-12 noon in the funeral home. www.theocauman.com
