DICKSON, Dudley Haag, 85, born November 5, 1928, went home to be with his Lord on July 20, 2014. Dudley began his life in Tampa, FL, the only son of Emma and Robert Dickson. He graduated from Hillsborough High School before working his way up to manager of Tampa Theatre. He was transferred to West Palm Beach, FL to become regional manager of several other theaters. During this time, he was approached by one of his theater vendors to come into the ice cream business. He then became general manager for Rich’s Ice Cream. During this period of his life he also became interested in the use of polygraph (lie detection) while following the Boston Strangler case in the news. He attended polygraph school in the 60’s, which led to a return to college to complete his Bachelor Degree. He received a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Lee College and found the love of his life, Doris McDaniel there in Cleveland, TN. They married and moved to Tampa. In Tampa he completed a Master’s Degree in Gerontology at the University of South Florida. While working on his Master’s he simultaneously began building a successful polygraph business. This success extended his business contacts to several State’s Attorneys and many other federal and state law enforcement agencies. Dudley was a compassionate man. He touched and bettered many lives. He built and pastored a church while in TN. He served God throughout his life as a deacon, a counselor and committee member, always willing to extend a helping hand. He learned to fly airplanes and as a pilot instructed others in the art of flying. Dudley Dickson, as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, you will be missed. He is preceded in death by his son, Dudley Grant Dickson, He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Doris McDaniel Dickson, his children, Mark Louis Dickson (Deborah), Marti Dickson, his grandchildren, Kathy Dickson (Matthew Nimmo), Severin Dickson, and great granddaughter, Sarah Olivia Nimmo.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 6-8 pm at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Ave, Tampa. Funeral services will be held on July 25, 2014 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Temple Terrace, 10002 56th St, Temple Terrace. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Immediately following the funeral service will be the interment and reception at Garden of Memories Funeral Home.
