E.P. "Buddy" Canada passed from this life October 28, 2012 at the age of 100. He was born in Nathalie, Virginia in Halifax County to Edward Henry and Mary Belle Canada.
Buddy and his family moved to Taylor, Texas in the early part of 1916. They found a quaint little town called Smithville and settled there in 1919. In 1934 Buddy left Smithville on his many journeys, to include serving his country in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. After the war he returned home to Smithville and married Helen Ritchie. Buddy started his railroad career with the Old Katy Railroad as a Switchman for the Houston Yard. This job required him to travel quite a bit, but Smithville was always home. When Buddy retired in 1975 and returned home to Smithville. His loving wife Helen passed early in 1987. After the loss of his wife Buddy was blessed to find a local Smithville companion. He later married Jewel Baylor in Kokomo, Indiana. They resided happily in Smithville, their home, until his death.
Visitation for Buddy will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas.
