Earle A. Howard, SR, 88, of South Portland, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Maine Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born March 17, 1924 in Providence RI a son of the late Earle A Howard and Alice (Haskell) Thompson.
He grew up in Portland and attended the local schools. He was married for 56 years to the love of his life Virginia (Morey) Howard.
Earle worked in South Portland building Liberty Ships until he joined the Army and served during WWII. He was a member of the Second Infantry Division. Among many medals, Earle received The Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After the war he took great pride in his work at Joe Wigon Office Supply at which he worked for 67 years until his passing.
Earle enjoyed bowling, watching his favorite sports teams, the Red Sox and the Patriots and highest on his list was spending time with his family.
Earle was predeceased by his wife, and a grandson.
He is survived by his two sons Earle A. Howard JR of Florida, and Monty Howard and his wife Karen of Corinna; his daughter Cynthia McAllister and her husband Herb of Windham, and stepson Edwin Williams and his wife Kay of FL; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great -great grandchild.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation 2-4 and 6-8 Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland where a Funeral Service will be held 11 am Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Committal will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
