Edward Bianco

June 29, 1918 - February 12, 2012
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Longtime Staten Islander Edward J. Bianco, 93, of Dongan Hills, a World War II veteran, died Sunday at home.

A Brooklyn native, he was brought to Dongan Hills as a child.

A graduate of McKee High School, he served as a water tender third class aboard a U.S. Navy battleship during World War II.

His career was spent as a self-employed mechanic.

Mr. Bianco was a parishioner of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Dongan Hills.

He was a member of the Huttner-Pasqualini American Legion Post; the Mariners Harbor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, and the Mariners Harbor Yacht Club.

Mr. Bianco enjoyed boating and playing golf.

His wife of 48 years, the former Mary Frettered, died in 1989, and his son, Edward, died in 1998.

Surviving are two sons, Richard and William; a daughter, Deborah Thatcher; 10 grandchildren, and eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
