Edward R. Lamoureux, Sr. 84, of 11 Oriole Avenue, Keene, NH died on Friday, June 21, 2013 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Keene, NH on October 17, 1928 the son of Joseph and Florence (Pelletier) Lamoureux.
Ed was a lifelong resident of Keene and Marlborough, NH. He attended the St. Joseph Regional School in Keene. He proudly served a Corporal with the US Army during WWII and then re-enlisted in 1951 and served with Company K, 351st Infantry Regiment.
Ed was the owner and operator of Edward R. Lamoureux Painting Company in Keene.
He was an active member of the Gordon-Bissell Post 4 American Legion in Keene where he served as past Vice Commander, commander of the color guard and the Military Mortuary Honor guard. He was also an active member of the Daley-Whipple Post 799 VFW in Keene, the DAV Chapter 21, the 40 and 8, and was a member of the Croteau-Coutts American Legion Post 24 in Marlborough, NH. He was a member of the Parish of the Holy Spirit and attended St. Bernard's Church. While serving with the military he performed with the US Army Band.
He was a Golden Glove Boxer and participated in the featherweight category. He boxed locally and also while serving in the military. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing the guitar. He also enjoyed visiting downtown Keene and watching people.
In 1950 Ed married the love of his life, Shirley M. Daigle in Marlborough, NH; they were married for fifty-four years. Shirley died in February 2004.
Ed is survived by four children; a son, Edward R. Lamoureux, Jr. of Laconia, NH, a daughter Linda Proulx and her husband Frank of Swanzey, NH, Mark Lamoureux and his wife Cheryl of Keene, NH and Gary Lamoureux and his wife Holly also of Keene; a sister Theresa Madison of Keene; nine grandchildren: Tammy Lamoureux, Edward R. Lamoureux, III, Tina Robichaud, Timothy Proulx, Mark A. Lamoureux, Jessica Lamoureux, Brittany Lamoureux, and Daniel Lamoureux, Jonathan Lamoureux,; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters-in-law; Virginia Lamoureux, Pauline Lamoureux, Leonard Daigle, Joanne and Arnold Bailey, and Norman and Beverly Daigle; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his longtime companion Jan Lecuyer. He was one of thirteen children and was predeceased by eleven brothers and sisters including; Alfred Lamoureux, Eva Hamel, George Lamoureux, Lillian Blair, Emma Forcier, Arthur Lamoureux, Beatrice Royea, Joseph "Leo" Lamoureux, Robert Lamoureux, Rita Lamoureux, and Oscar Lamoureux and a brother-in-law William Daigle.
A graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Main Street, Keene on Wednesday morning, June 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. everyone is invited to attend. There are no public visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that contributions be made in his name to the Gordon-Bissell Post 4 American Legion Color Guard, 797 Court Street, Keene, NH 03431.
