Edward John Nowocin, of Ozark, Alabama died Friday, March 29, 2013, at his home. He was 75.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home and burial with full military honors to follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour prior to service time on Tuesday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Alacare Hospice.
Edward J. Nowocin was born October 13, 1937 in Buffalo, New York, son of the late Joseph and Lucy Kukula Nowocin. He joined the U.S. Army in December 1955 and retired as a SFC (E7) in May 1979 following 24 years of service. He served two combat tours in Vietnam, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, and Air Medal. Following his military career, Edward worked at the Ft. Rucker bowling alley and golf course, retiring after 20 years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Nowocin was preceded in death by two brothers: Walter and Joseph; three sisters: Rose, Josephine, and Bernice.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Emma (Susie) Festbaum Nowocin; son, Walter Nowocin, and his wife Jill, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughters: Rose Kjeldahl, and her husband Craig, of Howard Lake, Minnesota; Mary Wood, and her husband Jason, of Dallas, Texas; sister, Mary Nikirk, of Oakland, Oregon; grandchildren: Jennifer Nowocin, Matthew Nowocin, Eric Kjeldahl, and William Wood; niece, Lois Sampson, of Buffalo, New York.
