Effie Kathleen Barrier, 82, of Jonas Ridge, died peacefully while at Burke Hospice & Palliative Care after a period of declining health, Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Born June 23, 1928, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Martin Barrier and Ruanna Lee Shell Barrier. In addition to her parents, Miss Barrier was also preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Paul and Silas Barrier and five sisters, Bertie Barrier, Murta Clark, Edith Whisnant, Bessie Rose and Ethel Clark.
She is survived by three "sons", Leon Rose, Terry Rose and Ronnie Rose, all of Jonas Ridge, NC; a special cousin and friend, Mary Beach, of Drexel, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Miss Barrier will be held 7:00 PM, Friday, January 28, 2011 in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton, with the Reverend Jude Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will be held 9:30AM, Saturday, January 29, 2011, in the Gingercake Cemetery, Jonas Ridge, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Miss Barrier's memory to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
