MACON – Elizabeth S. Adkins, 88, died Thursday, August 24, 2011. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, Forest Hill Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church, 432 Forest Hill Road, Macon, GA 31210 or to The Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross, 46 Elm Street, Byfield, MA 01922.
Mrs. Adkins was born in Natrona, PA the daughter of the late George T. Snebold and Nannie Parke Snebold. She was a graduate of Greenburg High School, Greenburg, PA and the Episcopal School of Nursing, Philadelphia, PA in 1944. As a registered nurse, she held positions at Woman’s Hospital, Pittsburg, PA, St. Louis County Hospital, St. Louis, MO, Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, CT and Mary Elizabeth convalescent Home, Mystic, CT. Mrs. Adkins served as a board member of the Groton Public Health Agency, Groton, CT.
For many years, Mrs. Adkins was a member of the altar guild of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Northhampton, MA. She was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, Macon, GA and was a member of the Society of Companions of the Holy Cross. Mrs. Adkins was awarded a Certificate in Theological Education by Extension by the School of Theology of the University of the South, Sewanee, TN.
Mrs. Adkins leaves her husband of sixty-six years, the Rev. Edward T. Adkins, two sons, Richard D. (Debra) Adkins of Macon, GA and Roger D. (Sarah) Adkins of East Fairfield, VT; four grandchildren, Willow A. (Tim) Oberweger of Greenwich, CT, Ezekiel W. Adkins of Boston, MA, Christopher S. Adkins and Brian J. Adkins, both of Huntsville, AL; four great grandchildren, Chelsea, Taylor, Charlotte and Naomi; and three nieces, Ethel A. Valentine of Albion, NY, Geraldine A. (Frank) Licata of Buffalo, NY and Nancy T. (Larry) of Medina, NY.
