Mrs. Elizabeth W. Huffman, 83, of Drexel, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 13, 2012, while at the Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Valdese. Born December 10, 1928, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late George Ward and Nellie Whisenant Ward. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Huffman was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ricky, Bobby, Billy and David Ward and a sister, Mary Francis Street. Mrs. Huffman was a member of the Drexel Memorial Baptist Church where she was active in the choir. She will be remembered as a compassionate and caring mother, grandmother and friend that often call to check on her family and Church family.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 65 years, Millard Huffman, of the home;
Two sons, Steve Huffman and Alan Huffman and wife, Deborah, all of Drexel;
A daughter, Judy H. Crawley and husband, Bill of Morganton;
A sister, Dorothy Dean and husband, Harold, of Morganton;
Six grandchildren, Amanda Firestine, Kristen Rogers, Lori Fletcher, Kelly Fletcher-Kress, Dwight Fletcher and Aaron Huffman;
Five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins will also cherish her memory.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Huffman will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 15, 2012, graveside at the Burke Memorial Park with the Reverend G. Ray Raymer officiating. The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 1:45 PM just before the services at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton.
