Elizabeth Kirkland Caviness Levings died on March 17, 2014. Betsy, as she was known by family and friends, was born December 9, 1936, in Raleigh, NC. Betsy was the daughter of the late Alice Webb Caviness and Verne Strudwick Caviness, MD.
Betsy was educated in the Raleigh Public Schools and graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School in 1954 and Duke University in 1958. She was married to the late George Edward Levings III in 1958. Betsy worked for the North Carolina Department of Archives and History. George worked for IBM and they lived in Charlotte, Ridgefield, Connecticut and Boca Raton, Florida.
She is survived by her daughter Suzanne Levings Evans of Winston Salem and son George Edward Levings IV and wife Francesca of Huntersville; grandsons William Levings of Colorado and Mason and Cameron Evans of Winston Salem; her brother Verne S. Caviness, Jr., MD and wife Madeline of Boston and sister Alice Caviness Hardy and husband Richard of Raleigh; nieces Gwendoline Caviness of California and Chantal Caviness of Texas and Cameron Ellerbe and Katherine Connell of Raleigh.
Betsy's family would like to thank Dr. Jim Parsons and the entire staff at Mayview Convalescent Center for the loving care that they have given her the last 15 years. They also appreciate the kindness and compassion shown to her by her Hospice of Wake County team.
A graveside service will be held Friday, April 11th at 11:00 am at St. Matthews Episcopal Church Cemetery Hillsborough, NC .
