In the rising of the sun and in its going down,
We remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter
We remember them.
In the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring,
We remember them.
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer,
We remember them.
In the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn,
We remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends,
We remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength,
We remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart,
We remember them.
When we have joys we yearn to share,
We remember them.
So long as we live, they too shall live,
For they are now a part of us,
As we remember them.

This morning I was thinking of Mr. Burka. I met him many years ago after I had my first child. I was a resident in one of his communities. I was ready to get back to work and was considering a position that was available within an Alexandria community called Lloyd Apartments.
I submitted my resume and was surprised to hear from Mr. Burka himself. He said after reading my resume he wanted me to come meet him at his Fillmore Gardens office for an interview.
It was the warmest and most sincere interview of my life to date. All my nerves disappeared. All my worries were gone. After a few minutes of meeting him I could tell he was genuinely a kind person.
I got the position and started working at Lloyd Apartments. Mr. Burka was a regular at the property. In all my years in the property management industry I have never seen such a presence by an owner.
He cared for us. He asked about our families. He knew our spouses and children's names and never failed to make us feel wanted and appreciated.
Everyone that worked for Mr. Burka admired him. Admired his stories. Enjoyed his company. There are so many things I could say about Mr. Burka and the many ways he changed my life and lives of others. But the #1 thing is that he was an amazing boss. He is truly missed and pray his family is doing well.

I have worked for Mr. Burka for many years. He was not only our boss but he genuinely cared about all of his employees. He was a giving person who always had a joke to tell. His knowledge about everything never ceased to amaze me. He instilled in us honesty, integrity, fairness and high standards. I cant thank him enough for the opportunity he gave me as a young single mother over 13 years ago... Thank you Mr. Burka for everything. You will be greatly missed.

Elliott sent many interesting emails of world events ...he was a fantastic man/friend and as good a heart as he was handsome and a pleasure to be around...Extremely multi-faceted, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about everything .So ,so bright.
We missed him in Sturbridge in the spring of 2013 and were concerned .I asked Christine..and was going to call to see if he was attending the South Dakota ASAC meeting. We are shocked and heartbroken...
Whether we saw him or spoke w/him few times or not he was always a special person in our lives...
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Christine,Asia and his other family members...
Much love,hugs and kisses,
Lynne and M.Clifford Young

Be comforted in knowing that God is with you during this difficult time and
that there are friends that also share your sorrow with you. I find Psalm

My husband and I live in an apartment on one of the properties that he owns.
My sister and I grew up in the apartment that my husband and I live in. I can remember as a kid, Mr. Burka walking around the property with the late Minnie Griffith, who was the residential manager. When I saw him, I would say, "Hi, Mr. Burka."
My folks still live here also. I just love the neighborhood. I thank him for the wonderful memories that I have here. If it were not for the apartments, my childhood would have been dull!
Our deepest sympathy to his family and friends!

Elliott was not only a cousin but, also, a childhood neighbor and friend. Over the past 6 weeks, we had weekly chats by phone and, when in the D.C. area in July, I visited with him. What a fighter he was! I will miss him and send my most sincere condolences to Christine and his entire family.
