Elsie Irene Swallows, 77, of Diboll, was born June 23, 1934 in Rusk, Texas, the daughter of the late Roxie Mae (Middleton) and William Henry Kilgore. She passed away Monday, May 28, 2012 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Swallows was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She retired from Diboll ISD as a cafeteria manager following 25 years of employment. She loved to bake, especially pecan pies, and was always praying for her children. Mrs. Swallows was a charter member of First Assembly of Diboll.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Pam Swallows, Henry and Roxanne Swallows and Vernon Jr. and Patricia Swallows; daughter, Naomi Walker; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Alice Kilgore and Charles and Linda Kilgore; sister, Betty Howell; brother, Floyd Kilgore; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Swallows was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Vernon Theron Swallows, Sr.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Jason Swallows, Cody Swallows, Scotty Swallows, Michael Trevino, William Toburen; and her nephew, Arthur Kilgore.
Services for Mrs. Swallows will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Donnie McNaughton officiating. Interment will follow in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery in Diboll.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
