Elwood Harrison Barnes, 90, of 2704 Horsepasture Price Road, Ridgeway, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Henry Co on September 6, 1919 to the late Thomas Frank Barnes and Kate Smith Barnes. He served during WWII in the United States Army. He was retired after more than 50 years as a self employed Saw miller and Logger. He attended the Wilson Street Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife; Ena M. Barnes, his step-mother, Alma Jenkins Barnes; two half sisters, Nancy B. Coleman and Lelor B. Hollandsworth.
Surviving are two daughters, Joan B. Montgomery of Martinsville and Darlene B. Davis of Nokesville; five sons, Melvin H. Barnes and Joel David Barnes both of Ridgeway; Doug Barnes of Martinsville; Tommy Barnes of Murrells Inlet, SC; and Anthony Barnes of Nokesville, one sister, Louise B. Jenkins of Ridgeway, three half sisters, Betty B. Watkins of Ridgeway; Patsy B. Cox of Stoneville, NC and Alma B. Devoe of Ridgeway; one brother, Virgil Barnes of Eden, NC; four half brothers, Billy E. Barnes of Ridgeway; Franklin R. Barnes of Martinsville; Bobby M. Barnes of Axton and Homer D. Barnes of Thomasville, NC; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2009 in the chapel of Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel with Rev. Jack Foley officiating, burial will be in the Barnes Family Cemetery on the Chest Nut Knob Road, Ridgeway. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the Martinsville Chapel of Collins-McKee-Stone.
