Ernest F. Lombardo, 79, of East Syracuse, passed away Thursday. A life resident of Syracuse, he attended Central High School and was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Ernest served his country during the Korean and Vietnam Wars before retiring in 1974. He was a life member of the Syracuse Marine Corps League and a member of the DAV, American Legion Post 41 and the VFW Post 2893 in Solvay, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Angeline Lombardo; his daughter, Cynthia Friske in 1997; his son, Ernest Lombardo, Jr. in 2010.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Carol A. Scheirer Lombardo of East Syracuse; daughters, Karen (Ed) Scanlon of California and Patricia (Dave) Johnson of Bridgeport; sister, Elizabeth (Jim) Whittaker of Canada; brother, Louis (Evelyn (deceased) Lombardo of Baldwinsville; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Ameya, Jaime, Jodi, Christina, Dawn, and David.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. at Farone & Son Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Church, 229 W. Yates Street, East Syracuse, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park Street, Syracuse.
