Mrs. Ernestine Jewel Andrews Baker, 86, of Hudson, NC, passed away, Monday, June 27, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
Mrs. Baker was born in Wilkes County, NC on September 5, 1924 to the late Claude and Maggie Livingston Andrews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Alvin Grady Baker, whom she married on March 1, 1947 and who passed on May 21, 2003; one son, Dwight Jeffrey Baker; three brothers, Edd, Alton, and Clifton Andrews; and three sisters, Audine Vaughn, Claudia Jean Blackburn, and Laurene Andrews.
She was a member of Lewis Fork Baptist Church and loved gardening, flowers and all things outdoors. In addition, she enjoyed making quilts and covering coat hangers.
Those left to cherish Mrs. Baker's memory are two sons, Stanley Alvin Baker and wife, Jean of Hudson, NC, Keith Douglas Baker and wife, Lonnie of Las Vegas, NV; one daughter, Sheila Baker Hawks of Hudson, NC; three brothers, Hartley Andrews and wife, Wanda, Vern Andrews and wife, Valerie, and Wilton Andrews; one sister, Dorothy Rector and husband, Milford; seven grandchildren,Chris, Mike, Mark, Andy and Ben Baker, Jason and John Paul Hawks; four great grandchildren, Kristen, Lacey, Ethan Luke Baker, and Eli Hawks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Mrs. Baker will be held, Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Pendry's Chapel with Pastor Gene Gouge officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm prior to the service. Entombment will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir, NC.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Hawks, John Paul Hawks, Chris Baker, Mike Baker, Marshall Ruppard, and Buster Heskett. The honorary pallbearer will be Eli Hawks.
