Ethel Ida Taylor, 92, went to be with her Lord on November 5, 2013. She was born on November 2, 1921 in St. Louis, MO. Ethel grew up in Jacksonville, IL and after high school moved with her family to Long Beach, CA. During WWII, she got a job at Douglass Aircraft as a "Rosie the Riveter". It was there that she met her future husband.
Myron and Ethel were married on July 2, 1944 and he was shipped out 1 week later to join the war effort in the Pacific theater. After the war, they moved to Hanford where Myron began farming and Ethel was a homemaker. Ethel was very active in her church where she was the last surviving Charter Member of the First Lutheran Church in Hanford. There she was an organist for over 40 years and also active in LWML activities. Myron was an avid pilot and he and Ethel flew to countless locations with Reno being their favorite. They also loved traveling through the Western States in their RV. After Myron's death in 1984, Ethel loved the cruising life and went on several cruises with her family to numerous destinations.
Ethel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ernie and Alene Taylor, her daughter, Myra Crookshanks; her grandchildren; Cheryl Taylor, Monica Kleber, Bryan Taylor, Jonathan Taylor, Robin Webster, Jill Crookshanks and Sally Battenfield, her great-grandchildren; Paul Fochetti, Larissa Wilson, Todd Kleber, Luke Taylor, Landon Webster, Casey Webster and Parker Battenfield; her sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Norman Courvoisier; her sister-in-law, Sally Oberjuerge; her brother-in-law, Charles Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Myron; her son, Keith Taylor; her grandchildren, Paul Taylor and Chad Crookshanks; and her brother, Al Oberjuerge.
Throughout her life, Ethel could always be found with a smile on her face and the Lord in her heart. A sincere thank you is extended to the staff at Kings Nursing and Rehab for their kind care over the past 2 years.
Services for Ethel will be held on Tuesday, November 12th, at 1:00 p.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Hanford on 12th Ave. and Grangeville Blvd. Burial will be at the Hanford Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Church's fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chad Crookshanks Memorial Scholarship, 19896 Avenue 300, Exeter, CA 93221. This scholarship is for childhood cancer survivors in Kings and Tulare counties. Arrangements under the direction of People's Funeral Chapel.
