Eugene (Gene) Wendell Boreen, 73, went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2011 surrounded by his family.
Gene was born on August 28, 1937 in Dassel, MN to Roy and Mabel Boreen. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1954 – 1958.
On July 1, 1961, he married the true love of his life, Edryce (Hedtke) Boreen. They had two children, Karen and Kevin. In May of 1971 they moved to Gordon where they owned and operated the Gordon IGA for ten years. Gene was also employed and retired from the United States Postal Service as the Rural Mail Carrier for Gordon. In addition to these he served for twelve years on the Northwood School Board and was a member of the American Legion for over 30 years.
Gene was loved by so many. His laughter was contagious and he had an ability to make everyone feel welcomed and important. He will be greatly missed!
Gene is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Edryce; daughter Karen (Troy) Griffin of Gordon, WI; son Kevin (Cheri) Boreen of Superior, WI; 3 grandchildren: Danielle (Dustin) Corlett of Gordon, WI; Alyssa Boreen of Minneapolis, MN; Nicholas Boreen of Superior, WI; 2 great-grandchildren: Kailee and Kaden Corlett; brothers: Rodney (Jolaine) Boreen; Larry (Nancy) Boreen; sisters: Rosalia Larsen; Marilyn Stoffers; Leona Schultz, and Janice (Denny) Heveron and many nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials in Gene's honor may be sent to The Family of Eugene Boreen at 9713 Ballpark Drive, Gordon, WI 54838.
A Celebration of Life will be held 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gordon, WI. Rev. Richard Blood will officiate. Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the Gordon Memorial Cemetery in Gordon, WI.
Military Rites will be accorded by the Lockman Jensen American Legion Post #499 of Gordon, WI.
