Teacher, Artist

On Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in Louisville, Georgia. Longtime resident of the Washington, DC area; beloved widow of Edward Aikman; loving mother of Helen Aikman; Laura Aikman; and Amy Nina Potter Aikman; devoted grandmother of Birchie Whitman; Hayter Whitman; Sacha Potter; Tristan Potter; and Alexander Chechik-Aikman. Grew up in Abingdon, Virginia. Graduated from the University of Tennessee. Enjoyed a long career teaching young children, first at the National Child Research Center in Washington and then at Norwood Parish School and National Presbyterian School. Traveled and exhibited widely as a photographer. Private interment at Rock Creek Cemetery on Monday, January 23. Reception and celebration at Joseph Gawler's Sons Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to the Louisville Food Pantry, c/o Ms. Mary Caran, 407 Sinquefield Circle, Louisville, GA 30434.
