Evelyn Hudson was born in 1915 in York, Nebraska, where she was raised on a dairy farm until the Great Depression caused her family to have to sell and move into town. She had 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Evelyn learned to play the piano when she was 5 years old, and the violin shortly thereafter. She attended York High School where, in addition to her general education, she learned secretarial skills and was very active in the music program. She won second place in the State music contest playing her violin. She fell in love with Willard Morgan Henson (nicknamed Jack) and they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where, would you believe, they lived until his parents came to town and required that they get married! Evelyn and Jack relocated to Los Angeles in 1937 where she went to work at Chic Lingerie, her first real job as a secretary. Their first daughter, Carol, was born in 1941, and second daughter Patricia was born in 1945. Jack Henson passed away in 1956 due to leukemia which was caused by work-related exposure to x-ray. Evelyn continued her career as a secretary and office manager, and began working for J.P. Hudson Accountancy in 1960. After 7 years she and Jack Hudson (yes, she married the boss, and yes, this is the second Jack) were married and continued to run his business together until 1990, when they retired and moved to the Seattle area. Jack passed away in 1997. In her later years, she was cared for in her home by Sherry Beacham, who, along with Sherry's children and grandchildren, became like a second family to her. Much gratitude goes to Sherry and her family for the love and care they gave to Evelyn.
Evelyn was a talented musician, seamstress, crafter, and home decorator. She always made her house a home and was a wonderful mother and companion. Her goal was to always do the best she could at whatever she decided to take on. She is survived by her two daughters, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all.
