Fermon Minshew, 88, of Pensacola, entered into the presence of his Heavenly Father on December 24, 2012.
He was born December 18, 1924 in Milton, Florida to the late Russell and Viola Minshew. A 1941 graduate of Pensacola High School, he became a popular musician as a high school student, playing trombone with dance bands across the Southeast. His work ethic and musicianship earned him a full scholarship from the music department at L.S.U., which he declined in order to serve in the United States Air Force. He later completed his education at Norwich University and Florida State University. Following his service as a bomber pilot in World War II, he returned to Northwest Florida where he spent his life in business and benevolence to his community. His exhaustive list of community activities included leadership in the Optimist club, Muscular Dystrophy Association, PJC Planning Committee, Pensacola Heart Association, United Way, and the First Baptist Church where he was ordained a deacon in 1956. He remained a faithful member until his death.
In addition to his parents, Fermon was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Helen, his sons Russ and Ronny, and four sisters, Helen Schambeau, Gladys Wright, Mary Emma Wilson, and Virginia Taylor.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa; son Don; daughter-in-law Hila Minshew; two grandchildren, Jan Arnett and Joe Minshew; great-granddaughter Anabelle Arnett; and several nieces and nephews.
Fermon Minshew was a successful Realtor and homebuilder whose influence reached beyond his local community. He served as President of both the Pensacola Association of Realtors and the Florida Association of Realtors, working tirelessly to enhance his chosen profession for those who would follow him. He delighted in extensive travel, but found his greatest pleasure in being husband to his beloved Helen.
A celebration of Fermon's life will be held Friday, December 28th at 2:30 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Rev. Don Minton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be private.
Bayview Fisher-Pou has been entrusted with arrangements.
