Fontella Pearl Lathion Baugh was born on May 13, 1922, in Piper, Alabama. She was the sixth of seven children born to Jacob and Mattie Myles Lathion. Her parents and all of her siblings preceded her in death.
On July 31, 1943, Fontella married Theodore R. Baugh who died in 1999. From this union, 3 children were born: Theodore (Martha), Tonna (Tommy Miller) and Ron (Iris).
She had a lifelong love of learning, and teaching. She earned a Bachelors degree from Alabama State University. She earned an additional Bachelors degree from Portland State University and later earned a Masters degree from Portland State. She worked for 23 years as an elementary school teacher, a middle school teacher and a librarian.
She also loved to travel. During her life she visited nearly all of the 50 United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. She also travelled to Canada, Mexico, South America (Brazil & Colombia), Africa (South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia & Egypt), Europe (Great Britain, France, Holland, Portugal, Spain, Italy & Germany), The Holy Land (Israel & Turkey), and Russia (Moscow & Leningrad).
She departed this life on December 18, 2011 after a lengthy illness, and went Home to be with the Lord.
Among those who will cherish her memory are her 3 children and their spouses, her grandchildren (Tiana & Michael), her sister-in-law: Bertha Baugh, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins
