Frances Calliham Aman passed away peacefully on February 25, 2010. She was born December 8, 1919 in Victoria, Texas to Jackson David Calliham and Glynn Henry Calliham.
Frances was a graduate of Patti Welder High School Class of 1938, Victoria College and Texas A & I in Kingsville, Texas with degrees in Elementary Education and English Literature.
Frances was a retired educator, having served as a teacher for thirty years. She began her career by opening a private kindergarten in Pleasanton, Texas in the 1940's. After her own children were of school age, she resumed her teaching career at Guadalupe Elementary followed by several years at Juan Linn and then taught at Rowland Elementary until her retirement. She had a lifelong love of children and of helping others. Frances was loved and is remembered by many of her former students as demonstrated by the numerous visits from them over the years. Having taught multiple generations of the same families she enjoyed teaching the children of former students and they would ask for her by name to be their teacher.
Frances married her college sweetheart L. C. Aman, and they shared 60 wonderful years together prior to his death in 2000. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and Mexico.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Glynn Boone, of Refugio, and her brother, David Calliham, of Victoria.
Frances was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Victoria Retired Teachers Association and served her community in numerous volunteer activities over the years.
Survivors are daughter, Sally Aman Barnes and husband, Mark Barnes of Victoria, son, David Aman Sr. of Warner Robins, Georgia. Grandchildren David Aman, Jr. and wife Joy, Dirk Aman and wife Christian, Ryan Murry and wife Aimee, Nathan Barnes and Katherine Barnes. Great-grandchildren Wyatt Aman, Avery Aman, Bladon Aman and Tatum Murry. She is also survived by nieces, great nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
Visitation will be held 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Monday, March 1, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marilyn Roeder officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Gruner, David Aman Jr., Dirk Aman, Ryan Murry, Nathan Barnes and Wyatt Aman. Honorary pallbearers will be Joyce Burris, Bobby Wade and staff of Joyce's TLC. The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Maria C. Velasco, Hospice of South Texas, and the staff at Main Street Personal Care.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund or Hospice of South Texas.
Following the graveside services, the Family invites you to a reception home of Sally and Mark Barnes at 110 Ridge View in the Springwood Subdivision on the Cuero Hwy. As you enter the subdivision, take the first right onto Park View, at the " T ", turn left onto Ridge View, and their home is on the corner.
