Francis Guy Tate, Jr., 92, of Dana, Indiana died at 9:15 pm Thursday, January 9, 2014 in his residence.
He was a retired millwright for General Motors Corporation at Tilton, Illinois with 35 years of service. He was also owner of Tate's Body Shop at Dana.
He was born August 2, 1921 in Paris, Illinois to the late Francis Guy Tate, Sr. and Helen Coyle Tate.
His wife of 69 years, Lena Beth Goodman Tate whom he married April 3, 1939 in Greene County, Indiana died March 7, 2009.
Survivors include five sons, Ronald Arthur (Karen) Tate of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jack Tate of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Donald (Lisa) Tate of Indianapolis, Indiana, Timothy (Mary) Tate of Fishers, Indiana, William (Eileen) Tate of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two daughters, Sue (Carl) Seyfert of Dana, Indiana and Lynne (Darrell) Higham of Terre Haute, Indiana; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sons, Gary Lee, James Robert, Bus and Dennis Tate; two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Tate.
He was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of Church of Christ in Terre Haute. He served as the first president and charter member of the Indiana chapter of Good Sam Club. He was a member of United Auto Workers Credit Union.
Services will be 11:00 am Monday, January 13, in Overpeck-Gooch Funeral Home, 225 N. Maple Street, Dana, with Brett Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Terre Haute. Visitation is 3-6 Sunday at Overpeck-Gooch Funeral Home.
