Norwich- Frank Raymond Allen, 88, of Norwich, CT entered into eternal rest on November 1, 2012.
Frank was born December 29, 1923 in Central Falls, RI, the son of Louise G. Duffell and Frank Allen. He grew up in Rhode Island and his family moved to Baltic CT in 1940 and he then graduated in 1941. Frank was employed as a Machinist by Park Davis and in January of 1943, joined the Army, serving in the 505th Battalion during WWII in the European Theater until March of 1946. He received the Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal for his service. Upon returning home, he was employed as a machinist for the Baltic Mill and then for the US Navy in Groton, CT as a machinist in the power plant, where he retired after more than 25 years. After a 12 year courtship, he married Lucille M. Finlayson on April 29, 1961 at the Taftville Congregational Church.
Frank was a Charter member of the Sprague Camera Club and of the Circle 8 Square Dance Club. He was a member of St. James Masonic Lodge, serving as a Demolay Day, Master, and Assistant District Deputy to CT and a Rainbow advisor. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite. Frank enjoyed music and loved to sing. He attended every concert his daughter performed in as long as he was able. He sand in his church choirs, was a member of the bass section of the Eastern CT Symphony Chorus for many years and sang the part of one of the three kings for the Feast of Lights at Grace Episcopal Church every January.
He is survived by his wife Lucille of Norwich, daughter Nancy Allen-Ziemski and his grandson Joshua Ziemski of Norwich CT and his dog Trina and 2 grand dogs Rosco and Bella. He was predeceased by his sister Violet Shugrue.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 78 Washington St., Norwich CT on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 11 am.
