Frank S. Kusnir Jr., 95, of Harrisburg, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at his home. He was born May 9, 1917 in New Jersey and was raised in New Brighton, PA; he was the son of the late Frank S. and Mary (Landika) Kusnir Sr.
He retired from the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of WW2, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Frank was captured at the Battle of the Bulge at Christmas during WW II and was liberated the following Easter; for his valor, he received The French Legion of Honor Medal, France's highest military award.
He was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 1001, and was commander of the Capital City Ex POW's, and past commander of the State Ex POW's.
Surviving is his wife, Josephine Fabian Kusnir; his stepson, John Fabian, wife, Christine, of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Larissa Curcio, John A. Fabian, Alexandra Fabian and Justine Fabian; great-grandchildren, Isabella Curcio and Paul Curcio III; his 2 brothers, Milos Kusnir, of Ambridge and John Kusnir, of New Brighton; and his sister, Viola Levine, of Orange Co., FL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A viewing will be held 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg, PA 17111.
