Franklin Blair Abernethy, age 90 of Newton, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton.
Born January 31, 1924 in Lincolnton, he was the son of the late Lester Franklin Abernethy and Inez Rudesill Abernethy. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served 2 ½ years in the South Pacific. He retired from Duke Power in 1983 with 47 years of service.
Frank was a lifetime member of First Methodist Church in Lincolnton and was a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a member of the Lion's Club and enjoyed travel with the Navy Reunion Group for 40 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Luther Abernethy and wife, Jean; sister, Virginia Edwards and husband, Lyle.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Carpenter Abernethy; sister, Celeste Jonas and husband, Harvey Jonas, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel in Lincolnton on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. David Wyantt officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at Warlick Funeral Home, 125 Dave Warlick Dr., Lincolnton, NC 28092.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Methodist Church, 201 E Main St., Lincolnton, NC 28092 or to Lions Club International, 300 W 22nd St., Oak Brook, IL 60523-8842.
