Frederick William Altemus, 69, a native of Schenectady, NY and a 38 year resident of Poquoson after a long battle with cancer died at home on Sunday, January 30, 2011. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years of service in 1980. He was a Master Craftsman and Woodcarver, the Self Employed owner of Wood and Wood Knots, Inc.
Frederick was preceded in death by his parents Richard Bruce Altemus and Veronica Ann (Boudreau) Altemus; his brother Richard Altemus. He is survived by Marilyn Kay Altemus, his best friend and beloved wife of 43 years; son Jeffery Allen Altemus and wife Jennifer of Sacramento, California; sisters Leslie Ann Pritchard, Mary Lynne Brantley; brothers John Adair Altemus and Edward Altemus. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews close friends and extended family.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held privately.
