Fuad (Fred) Salem Batteh, 81, went to his eternal rest with the Lord on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. He was born on February 23, 1931 in Jerusalem, Palestine and later immigrated to the United States from Ramallah, Palestine in 1948. He was the patriarch of his family.
Fuad graduated from Andrew Jackson in 1948. He was a salesman on the road from 1948-1955. He then married his wife, Mary. He served two years in the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge.
He owned three successful businesses in his lifetime: Oceanway Supermarket, The Sandwich Shop in the IBM Building, and Yogurt, Creams, and Things.
He was a charter member and past president of the Ramallah-American Club, a member of the Oceanway Masonic Lodge, #279 F & AM, a Scottish Rite, Morocco Temple, and a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.
Fuad was the strong backbone of our family, who relied on his sound judgment, incredible wisdom, moral strength, and instilled family values. He will remain in our hearts forever.
Fuad was preceded in death by his parents, Salem and Jalelah and his brother Munir (Besima). He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary, sons, Richard (Darlene) and Sammy (Ghada), daughter Brenda Brown (Kevin), brother Kamel (Maha), sisters Grace Farhat (late Jamal) and Klare Bateh (Hanna), seven grandchildren, Jamilah Brown McCann(Jeremy), Houston Brown, Brock, Sierra, Mikayla, Samantha, and Fuad Batteh and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 20, with a Trisagion at 6: 00 PM at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 6300 Bowden Road, Jacksonville, officiated by the Very Rev. Archpriest Kamal Al-Rahil, Pastor. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 21, at St. George. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.
