Garland V. Huffman, 81, of Rockbridge County, died July 19th after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. He was born March 29, 1932 in Rockbridge County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Harry and Mary Huffman; sisters Evelyn Huffman, Newassa Huffman, Ernestine Shafer, Maxine Schaffer and Sadie Durham; and brother Herman Huffman.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathryn Huffman; children, Mike (Patty), Ann Tyree (Jimmy), Jason (Missy); sister, Helen Hamilton of Buena Vista; brothers, Harry Huffman (Mary), Buena Vista, Floyd Huffman (Shirley), Sandy, UT, and Lawrence Huffman (Lynn), East New Market, MD; brother-in-law, Eugene Durham of Buena Vista; sister-in-law, Pat Huffman of Hickory, N.C.; grandchildren, Michele Gordon-Huffman, Meghan Huffman, Darrick Huffman, Corey Huffman, and McKayla Tyree;. stepchildren, Jason Fuller, Darren Fuller and Melissa Tyree McDaniel; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Garland was a building supply owner for 13 years as well as a carpenter/ contractor for 50 years. He was a member of Falling Spring Presbyterian Church in Glasgow where he taught Sunday School until 3 weeks ago, was a Deacon, Elder and Trustee.
A memorial service will be held at Falling Spring Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 4:00pm with the Reverend Mike Huffman, officiating. Visitation will be held following the service or anytime at the home at 333 Forge Rd, Lexington VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Falling Spring Presbyterian Church or Rockbridge Area Hospice.
