On the afternoon of June 12th, 2014 Gavin Michael McBrearity passed away peacefully at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, surrounded by his loving family, together with close Emory friends. This followed a two week courageous battle with an infection, complicated by his congenital heart condition. Gavin was 27 years old. Gavin was born in Atlanta, GA. on July 25th, 1986. He was the second son of Anne Marie and Michael McBrearity. Gavin graduated from Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School and St. Pius X Catholic High School. He then attended the College of Charleston and earned a Master’s in Health Administration from MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina). Following graduation, Gavin was accepted into the Administrative Fellowship program at Emory University Hospital. Subsequently, he was hired as a consultant at Subsidium Healthcare in Atlanta, which he had been enjoying for the past year. Throughout his life, Gavin was a gifted and competitive tennis player. He played Junior, High School and College Tennis. He was passionate about music, movies and sports. Everyone who knew Gavin would describe him as passionate about life, exuberant, deeply caring, charismatic and a great friend. And that smile…..which will never be forgotten. Friendship was at the heart of Gavin’s life. He welcomed everyone in. His gift for friendship was evident throughout his life as a student and as a legendary bartender in his beloved Charleston during his college years. He had legions of friends, but no better than his brother Daniel. He will be missed beyond measure by his adoring parents and brother, as well as his extended family and friends in the United States and Ireland. Friends will be received on Tuesday, June 17th, 2014 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm at HM Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30319. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 18th at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 1350 Hearst Drive, N.E., Atlanta, GA. 30319. A reception and celebration of Gavin’s life will follow at the church’s Moylan Hall. A private burial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to the Emory Healthcare Partners in Health Fund in memory of Gavin. Should you like to make a donation, please make checks payable to Emory and mail to Emory Healthcare Gift Records, 1762 Clifton Road, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30322.
