Geneva Marie Hebert Humphries, 88, died at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012.
Geneva was born in Grand Lake on November 26, 1923 to John B. and Eva Marie Ardoin Hebert. She married Guy James Humphries on November 16, 1950. They lived in Grand Lake until 1977. She worked in the Grand Lake High School cafeteria for 10 years (1957-1967). She worked at Fabric House in Lake Charles until1977, when she and her husband moved to Starks. She worked cleaning houses and with Meals on Wheels from 1993-1997. She made many friends after moving to Starks, and helped many older people by cooking for them and taking them to doctor's appointments just for the love of helping people. She will always be remembered for her giving spirit. Her family and friends will always remember her cookies and banana nut bread that she baked just to give away.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy James Humphries, her parents, and 3 brothers, Clifford Joseph Hebert, James Anderson Hebert and John Ambry Hebert.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Margaret Ann Muth and husband Joseph, of Lake Charles, Mary Katherine (Kathy) Corry and husband Mike, of Starks, and Nellie June Wallis and husband Gil, of Kingswood, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Geneva Irene Corry, Phillip Michael Corry and wife Sabrina, Alana Renee Mears and husband Brent, Sarah Elizabeth Herrick and husband Kevin, Joseph Muth V and wife April, and Rachel Ann Muth; 8 great grandchildren, Hope Gabriel Corry, Madison Alise Mears, Lance Michael Corry, Joseph Corwyn Muth, Cameo Rose Muth, Addica Raine Muth, Cardegan Reese Muth and Adrien Roan Muth; many nieces and nephews, and a beloved godchild Charlotte Sullivan Trahan.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m., April 14, in St Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton. The Rev. Susil Fernando will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Lake Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Friday with a rosary at 6 p.m. and from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of service.
