George K. DeWitt, 87, of Port St. John, died on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at The Health Center on Merritt Island. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on April 14, 1926 to George W. and Mary DeWitt.
In his role as a loving father and grandfather, he was a mentor, role model, teacher, and friend. Most people knew him as one of the smartest people they knew, with the ability to repair anything. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida and worked at NASA, as well as many other corporations, as an engineer.
He is survived by his seven children, Donald DeWitt of Washington, William J. DeWitt of Lexington, KY, Thomas DeWitt of Winter Park, Petrea Quilling (Glen) of Winter Park, Robert K. DeWitt (Lori) of Port St. John, Dean DeWitt (Bonnie) of Merritt Island, and Carol DeWitt of Orlando; three step-children, Carolyn Weisner of Rockledge, Patricia Tilley (James) of Titusville, and William Knickle (Sharon) of Port St. John; sister, Rosemary Ackley (Paul) of Pennsylvania; and 20 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 3:30 pm at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home, 5475 North U.S. 1, Cocoa.
