Georgianna (Georgia) Johnson
100, of Bradenton, passed away on Thursday June 26, 2014. Georgia was born on May 25, 1914 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Addison and Olive Mae Caler and was the first child. Georgia was preceded in death by her two brothers, William and Thomas, her beloved husband, Edmond as well as son, William Warren Thomas and daughter Nancy Lee Chesnut. Georgia is survived by her three remaining children Patricia (Don) Ranta, Richard (Donna) Thomas and Sandra (Dale) Weidemiller as well as 17 grandchildren, 25 great- grandchildren and many great- great- grandchildren.
Georgia lived on her own until the end at Tara Golf & Country Club and greatly enjoyed her hundreds of cook books and major league baseball. She could tell you player's names and statistics and would often stay up late to watch a west coast game.
Georgia came to Bradenton in the 1940's to raise her five children. She worked at McCrory's Five & Dime for many years. Later she moved to Detroit, Michigan where there was plentiful work opportunities. Edmond retired from General Motors in the 1990's and together they retired to Bradenton which was their dream. They enjoyed their family for many years as well as all the great things our area offers.
Georgia remained strong for her 100th birthday celebration on May 25th. Sixty-six family and friends converged to celebrate Georgia and her wonderful life. The Manatee County Commission proclaimed May 25, 2014 Georgia Johnson day. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on July 12, 2014 at 4:00PM at Manasota Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1221- 53rd Avenue East, Bradenton. Florida 34203. In lieu of flowers, donations to Meals on Wheels, 811 23rd Avenue East, Bradenton, FL 34208.
