Greg Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2013.

William McGreg Jones, 59, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend to many, passed away on September 8th, 2013. “Greg”, as everyone knew him, was born in Milledgeville, Georgia to parents James Richard Jones and Allie Singletary. The family moved to Orlando soon after, where he was raised, graduating from Oak Ridge High School in 1971. He attended the University of Florida Pharmacy school and upon graduating, married his wife, Inda. They lived in the Conway area, where they raised their two boys. Greg worked as a pharmacist/group manager at Walgreens for the past 19 years. He enjoyed watching UF and UCF sports, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He will always be remembered for his life-filled smile, generous spirit, and positive attitude. He was loved and will forever be remembered by his surviving family: his wife, Inda; his sons, Brennan and Taylor; his grandson, Corban; his mother, Allie; and his siblings, Allie, Rick, and Sue. A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, September 13th at 1:00 PM at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 E. Curry Ford Rd., Orlando, FL 32806. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Inda, Brennan & Taylor - It will be the little things that you will remember, the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter, and although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memories of these little things that help to push away the pain and bring the smiles back again. May the stars carry your sadness away, may the flowers fill your heart with beauty, may hope forever wipe away your tears. May you take comfort in knowing an angel is watching over you. Greg, we miss you and will always remember you my friend...

"Greg Jones the only manager at Walgreen's who had inspire me to be who I want to be, and not to let anyone tell me other wise. He was like a mentor to me, the only manager who see potential in people and see people as human being, he never judge, discriminate, stereotype or think less of anyone. The one person that I could talk to and get a non bias respond, He use to motivate me and always have a smile when he walk by, he is one of gods angel and it is a blessing to have met him and to had worked with him, always have kind words to say and it's rear to find individual as him in this life, and that is why he will forever be remembered, you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. May your soul forever rest in peace.

Greg Jones hired me 16+ years ago, for which I will be forever indebted. He was my boss, but much more than that he was a true friend to me ever since that time, and I will always cherish the memories of that friendship.

Inda, it has really been 34 year since I have had the honor of yours and Greg's friendship. I can honestly say that I have never met a better man than Greg. Even in the pre-marriage, pre-kids and grand kids days, Greg was always there to lend me a hand when I needed one, often volunteered by you. You knew there was no limit to his to his helping a friend even when I was afraid of taking advantage of his generous nature. I don't know how many times we packed up his mother's huge truck with all my stuff and moved me into another apartment. I called with so many drug questions, years ago. He not only helped but he was happy to help. Fortunately the Internet gave him a break in recent years.
You asked if I wanted to say anything at the celebration, and I kind of went blank, but I have thought of so many things to say, since. You know how I have been pestering you to get together for dinner and you always had some reply that it was not reasonble at the time. I talked with Greg on his last day and am so pleased that I did. First he asked about my upcoming surgery but then we talked about his frustrations about the dealings with the transplant. What you don't know is the last thing he said to me was, "Lets get together for dinner!" ??
I am so impressed by Taylor and Brennan. I know you have done lots of great things over the years but none could be better than marrying Greg and having those kids. Brennan seems to have settled into a wonderful life with a lovely wife and soon to be two children. They have a terrific future. Taylor has great things ahead of him. I strongly believe he is going to make a big mark on this world. I am going to Google Taylor every once in a while just to see where his "out of the box" mind has taken him. They are very different adults who need to follow their dreams.

Words can not express the sorrow my heart feels . Greg meant so much to all who had the privilege of having their lives cross with his. He was an example of the kind of person we should all strive to be. Always kind, fun loving, compassionate, patient, respectful, sincere, professional, easy going, with a smile that reminded you that everything would be okay. He was a true blessing and we are better for having known him. May we find some comfort in knowing he is watching over his family and friends and we shall see him once again in glorious heaven. Until then he will be missed!

May the Angels play their trumpets and sing a sound that is pleasing to your heart. And may Gods Peace and Joy surround you forever and ever. Amen....

To my dear friend Greg, sorrow fills my heart knowing that I won't catch another glimpse of your smile but know your rest is in peace. I will always hold close to my heart the great conversations we shared, the humor you always found, and the wisdom you demonstrated daily. You were loved, admired, and will always be remembered for your genuineness, loyalty, and your positive outlook on life. You have been a great example for all of us in dealing with life's adversities. You are loved and will forever be missed!

To Greg's Family, please accept my sincerest condolences. May God's peace and strength be upon you, and may joy come in the morning.

To Greg's Wife, Mother, Sons & Siblings,

Please know how much your loved one meant to so many. He was truly loved. As so many of us reflect on his life there are common factors such as never was an unkind word said about Greg, he loved to laugh which included laughing at himself. I enjoyed sharing stories w/ him about grandchildren, ( Corban he was so proud of you & said you are so smart). He was excited about the pending arrival of another grandchild. We loved to talked sports he UF & me FSU. :-) Even when we knew he did not feel well, he did not complain & say," I'm fine". Thank you Greg for all of the advice & support you have bestowed upon me & so many others. You will be missed, yet remembered fondly.

I can never forget Greg's infectious happy spirit that never failed to bring laughter to our revelry and calm to stressful moments. I am so blessed that Greg was my roommate at UF. Happy memories of football games, oysters & beers, gator-tail, golf, Inda, Muffin, & a seahorse rescue will live in my heart forever. Somehow he could turn negative situations into joyful moments & his positive encouragement could push you beyond perceived safe boundaries. Greg was a Gator but he was always true to his roots: the Georgia Bull-Dawgs . We understood -- & loved him for his devotion. It is painful to know that Greg has been taken from us so soon. I cannot imagine the immense vacuum that is left for Inda and family. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I send my love.
