Dec. 10, 2009, Guadalupe (Lupe) Villegas Escalante, has been called to her eternal reward.
Preceded in death by husband, Frank H. Escalante and son, Arthur Escalante. She will be received into Heaven by mother and father, Justo and Guadalupe Villegas; sisters, Peggy Leon, Jovita Vasquez; and brother, Michael Villegas, and many more beloved family members and friends.
She leaves behind her youngest sister, Lydia Villegas from Santa Paula. She leaves behind a large family of one daughter and four sons, Yolanda McDougall, Bob Escalante (Pam), Leo Escalante (Rosa), Michael Escalante and John Escalante. Also, a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild: Trini Espalin and family of Stockton, Madiana Escalante and family, Lu and Sal Ledesma and family, Jess and Zoila Alvarez and family, Armando and Pauline Escalante and family.
Her family immigrated to this great country legally from Jalisco, Mexico in the early 1920's, coming through Texas and settling in Oxnard, Calif., attending Oxnard School District. She was the matriarch of her family early in her life and extending that role for five generations or better. She was her family pillar of strength and faith, an active; a devout Catholic in both Santa Clara and Guadalupe Churches, was president of the Blue Army of Fatima and Alter Society. She helped sponsor many young women and men to be Nuns and Priests.
She loved to travel and went to Europe and the Holy Land several times. She was a lover of hats and always wore one. She opened and operated a market in the early 40's and 50's on the Boulevard, across from Sal's Mexican and dabbled in real estate all her life.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 20, followed by the Rosary at 7 p.m. at Reardon's Funeral Home, 511 North A St., Oxnard. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Santa Clara Church, 323 South A St., Oxnard. Interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H St., Oxnard.
