Harley E. Barnes Jr., 85, of Sikeston, died April 25, 2014, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Born April 17, 1929, at River Ridge, Mo., to the late Harley E. and Fannie Ann Westerfield Barnes Sr., he served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1952. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the Pacific on the U.S.S. Norton Sound, a guided missile cruiser, and was honorably discharged in 1952. A long time educator of 26 years, he retired from Sikeston Public Schools in 1994, where he had served as a teacher, coach and principal. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Sikeston. On January 20, 1952, in Sikeston, he married Vonda Naomi Foster, who survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Mike Keefer of Sikeston; one son and daughter-in-law, Harley E. "Buddy" and Julie Barnes III of Plano, Tex; three granddaughters, two grandsons and two great grandsons. Also surviving are many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John C. Engram Sr. and Joseph A. Engram.
