Harlow Albert Lazott, 93, of Falmouth died on Tuesday June 4, 2013. He was born on February 2, 1920 in Nashua, NH a son of Gertrude (Taylor) and Harlow E.A. Lazott. He attended Worcester, MA schools and graduated from South High School, Class of 1937. He was one of 200 applicants to be accepted in a class of 30 for admission to the Massachusetts Nautical School. Upon graduation he applied and received a berth with the Grace Steamship Line on its South American run.
In 1940 he reported to the USS Salamonie, was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy, was discharged as an LCDR in 1945 and entered the Navy Reserve. He was recalled to active duty for the Korean War and was discharged a Commander. He returned to the Reserve in 1953 and retired as a Captain, USNR.
In January 1944, he had the good sense to marry his school sweetheart, Margaret Barnes Phipps, in New York City. After the war they returned to Worcester and they would have two sons, Russell and David. Bud began work with IBM as a Customer Service Engineer in the office products division. Still with IBM, after "Korea" he became Customer Engineering Manager for Maine until 1968 when he became Field Manager in Boston. In 1975 he opted for early retirement and he and Margaret moved to Waterford, ME
Life for Bud on Lake Keoka was ideal. He built a log home for his family to enjoy. Just about any day was a good day on the lake. Sailing provided a "spiritual" connection with water and he organized many lake regattas. Declining health would force him to move to Falmouth.
Bud is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Lazott of Falmouth, his son Russell Lazott of San Diego; his son David Lazott of Worcester, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery this summer. Please visit www.lindquistfuneralhome.com
