Greensboro- Harold O. Carpenter, Jr. died April 23, 2014 at Well Spring Retirement Community where he had lived for the past 18 years.
He was born May 23, 1926 to Harold Carpenter, Sr. and Henrietta Beall Carpenter in Greensboro. He was the grandson of Dr. William Paisley Beall and Henrietta Settle Beall.
He graduated from Greensboro Senior High School and served in the Navy during WWII, after which he entered N.C. State University and studied textile engineering. On graduating he worked for Cone Mills Corp. in the Pineville, New York and Greensboro executive offices.
On retirement he started an antique silver sales and consulting business for a number of years.
He was a member of the board of trustees of Greensboro Historical Museum and the YMCA of Greensboro. He enjoyed travel and visits to family homes at Kitty Hawk and Ashe County, NC.
He is survived by his nephews Thomas Beall Carpenter, Jr. and Richard Kent Carpenter; and cousin, Robert L. Beall. His brother Thomas Beall Carpenter, Sr. and his wife Neva Budd Carpenter predeceased him.
The memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, North Greene Street, Greensboro on April 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Craven Williams officiating. Inurnment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church or to the Well Spring Benevolent Fund.
