Hattie Louise (Blore) Berglund
January 23, 1926 – July 6, 2011
On July 6, 2011 Hattie peacefully passed away at home with family all around her. Hattie was born in Linton, North Dakota on January 23, 1926 to Isaac and Sarah (Lee) Blore. She was number 8 of ten children. She attended schools in the Linton area through high school, before moving to Port Angeles where most her brothers relocated to.
Hattie worked as a legal stenographer, court reporter, advertising salesman, and copywriter before she met the love of her life, Everett Berglund in 1948. Coming from North Dakota she had a love for snow. She skied at Deer Park with Everett and they both joined the ski club and the ski patrol soon after Hurricane Ridge opened.
Hattie married Everett Berglund July 1, 1950, starting a family in December 1954 when their son Kevin was born. In October 1956 their daughter Kathy was born. It wasn't long before Hattie had her kids in skis (both before 4 years of age), skiing in winter and water skiing in the summer at the family cabin on Lake Sutherland.
The Lord and family were Hattie's first priority and yet she still had plenty of time for sewing, cooking, and baking. She learned to decorate cakes so she could make one for her parent's 50th anniversary. Many friends and family have been delighted with pretty concoctions for many festive occasions. She was den mother for cub scouts with Kevin and Brownie leader for Kathy for three and a half years. Hattie was passionate about education. She joined the PTA, attended many school board meetings, and worked to pass many levies.
Hattie received her highest award a ski patrolman can get on January 28, 1969; The Rank and Badge of National Ski Patrol.
Several years she taught vacation bible school and also worked on the 75th anniversary of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was featured in the Port Angeles Evening News in the section of, "It's a wonderful world of women", on March 23, 1969. She was described as, "a whiz at whatever she undertakes". "Starting with her flashing green eyes, everything about Hattie indicates her motor is on go."
We will miss your quick wit, love of family, and teachings to us to spend our lives doing for others before ourselves.
