Helen F. (Slusarz) Mello, age 85 of Swansea, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 in Orchard View Manor in E. Providence. She was the former wife of the late John R. Mello.
Born in Somerset, the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Bigos) Slusarz, she has spent most of her life in Swansea. Mrs. Mello worked as a Unit Co-coordinator for the former Union Hospital now Charlton Memorial Hospital for 20 years until her retirement in 1992. An avid Bowler, she was a member of the Senior League in Somerset, she enjoyed gardening, was a former communicant of Blessed Virgin Polish National Catholic Church and a longtime communicant of St. Dominic's Church. She was also a member of the St. Thomas More Senior's while living in Somerset.
Surviving: five sons: Kenneth J., William T., Daniel J., Vincent J. and J. Richard Mello, Jr., three daughters: Jacqueline Kahn, Dorothy C. Murphy, Julie Anne Mello, two brothers: Raymond and John Slusarz, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was mother of the late Jo-Anne Mello and sister of the late Cecelia Zagorski, Francis and Stanley Slusarz and Amelia Marum.
Her funeral will be held Friday, February 22, 2013 at 8 AM from the WARING-SULLVIAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT ROSE E. SULLIVAN, 866 County St., Somerset with a funeral mass at 9 AM in St. Dominic's Church, 1277 GAR Highway, Swansea. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8 PM.
