Henry Chalkley Alexander, was born on August 16, 1935 and passed away on July 5, 2011 in his home.
He was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He attended Lake Charles High School and graduated from Louisiana State University with a B.S. degree in Geology.
He served in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis. He was employed by the Sweet Lake Land and Oil Co. and North American Land Co. from 1958 until his retirement in 2009. He served as President of both companies from 1979-1989 remaining on the Board of Directors until his death.
Mr. Alexander served on the Board of Directors of First National Bank, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, Lacassine Companies, Calcasieu Real Estate and Oil. He was a member of the Lake Charles Rotary Club and was a longtime supporter of the Lake Charles Symphony. He was a founding member, as well as a major contributor of the Lake Charles Community Band.
Mr. Alexander is survived by his sister, Laura Alexander Leach and husband, Claude "Buddy" Leach of Lake Charles; nieces, Mary O'Dell Leach Werner and husband, Joel of Lake Charles, Lucy Leach Davenport and husband, Craig of Baton Rouge; nephew, Claude Alexander Leach and his wife, Jenny of Lake Charles; as well as nine great nieces and great nephews, Hannah, Elizabeth, Patrick, Jackson, Alex, Jake, Grace, Miller, and Chalkley. Mr. Alexander was extremely generous and loving to his nieces, nephew and their families.
Mr. Alexander's funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Rev. Jim Reed, Rev. Jack Myers, and Rev. Deacon Boo Kay will officiate. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles beginning on Sunday, July 10 from 4-6 p.m. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park.
