Ida Louise Kopatz, 92, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday October 12, 2013 at Concordia Village. She was born on March 28, 1921 in Taylorville, Illinois, the daughter of Alfred and Helen Wilson Hurrelbrink. She married Alfred Kopatz on June 15, 1944 in Springfield and he preceded her in death on May 5, 1998.
She is survived by her four sons : Tom Kopatz of Caseyville, IL., Paul (Kathie Jacobson) Kopatz of Minneapolis, MN., Martin (Billie) Kopatz of Pawnee, IL., and Steve Kopatz of St. Louis, MO., seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, her two brothers: Alfred (Nan) Hurrelbrink of Chatham, IL., and Harold (Jennie) Hurrelbrink of Hinsdale, IL., her sister Marie Davis of Fort Meyers, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.
After losing her parents at age eighteen, Ida raised her two brothers and sister while actively employed at Sangamo Electric during World War II helping in production of the North American Bombsite. She enjoyed raising her four sons and assisting Mrs. Hamrick's Pre School. Mrs. Kopatz attended Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a cook and a member of the Ladies Aid. She also enjoyed cooking, canning, and sewing.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday October 17, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2750 East Sangamon Avenue, with Pastor Darrell Debowey officiating and burial will follow services at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4:00-7:00pm Wednesday at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road.
