at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Long Beach, California on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 11:00 am.
Isabel passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the age of 93. Isabel was the loving daughter of a New Mexico rancher and his wife, Fulgencio and Isabel (Garcia) C de Baca. She was the youngest of eight children, and the last of the legends to pass away. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Kelli Wayman of San Antonio, Texas. She is survived by her husband Albert "Arlie" Padias of Long Beach and her four children, Jerry Donahue and spouse Nancy of La Mesa, CA, Tommy Donahue and spouse Pauline of Bloomington, Indiana, Denise Donahue-Wayman and spouse Ed of San Antonio, Texas, and Marilyn Donahue-Schiller and spouse Ben of Brooklyn, New York. Isabel is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins and very many special friends. Isabel is also survived by Arlie's children Denise Padias of Glendale, Arizona, Dennis Padias and spouse Belinda of Long Beach, California and granddaughter Holly Padias of Lakewood, California.
Isabel was born on June 24, 1919 in Clayton, New Mexico. The family lived there and on their beautiful ranch in Bueyeros, New Mexico. Belle went to Business College in Denver, Colorado with her cousin Vicki Smith. She later worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington D.C. during World War II. It is there where she met her first husband Jerry (from New York) at a USO Dance. They could really dance, from the Peabody to the Jitterbug. Jerry and Belle raised their four children in Long Island, New York. Belle worked for RKO in NYC, and for Grumman Aircraft. In the 1960s Isabel became a licensed real estate salesperson; Jerry and Belle opened up two Real Estate Offices on the Island. Belle would travel back to the ranch to bring her children for summer visits. It was the best of both worlds.
In the early 1970's, Belle and her daughter, Marilyn, traveled to California to start a new life on the west coast. Belle met Arlie at a dance in 1972 and they married in 1981. Belle and Arlie enjoyed their later years together in retirement, traveling and enjoying the grandchildren. They were blessed to have each other.
The family will be forever grateful to Malu Montefiero and Belinda Padias for there compassionate care of Isabel in later days, and the support of many people during her declining days. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
