J. Delphis Cormier, "Del," age 93, of New Bedford, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 in the Oaks Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Esther (Bryce) Cormier of 30 years and the former husband of Dorothy (Caron) Cormier of 25 years.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Jean B. and Alvina (Richard) Cormier, he had been a long time resident of New Bedford.
A Veteran of the Unites States Army he served during World War II as a Tech 4. He worked as a machine operator at the former Continental Screw Company in New Bedford for 41 years before retiring in 1982.
He was a lifetime member of the Dahill Post #153, a member of the Sacred Hearts Seniors, and a parishioner of Sacred Hearts/Holy Name Parish. He loved to Quahog and quahoged until he was 83.
He is survived by two sons, Robert D. Cormier of New Bedford, Richard A. Cormier and his wife Judy of Yarmouth, ME, one step-son, Clifford W. Johnson and his wife Janice of Acushnet, two step-daughters, Linda Zingali of Las Vegas, NV and Diane Johnson of New Bedford, two brothers Oscar J. Cormier of Acushnet, Lionel Cormier of Merritt Island, FL, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren who he thought the world of, and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Zepher, Emile, Romeo, Richard, and Alfred Cormier, and Dora Halle, and Lillian Paine.
His Funeral will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 8:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at BROOKLAWN 15 Irvington Ct. New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church 1359 Acushnet Ave. New Bedford. Visiting hours Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven.
