J. Dimmitt Smith passed away with dignity and grace on September 13th 2013. His family who loved and respected him were there by his side.
Dimmitt and/or Jack as family and friends knew him was born in Spokane, WA on March 18, 1924 to Edgar and Lillian Smith, Jack was the older of two brothers. His family moved to Seattle when he was a young boy. He attended Roosevelt High School in Seattle where he lettered in Track and Field and, following his service in the US Army Air Corps, attended the University of Washington where he received his Bachelor's degree before continuing on to Law School at the UW. He graduated from the UW Law School top of his class. At the UW he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and member of the UW alumni as well as the UW Law School Alumni.
As a young man, he worked for the Yellow Cab Company driving taxi's putting himself through law school before embarking on his very successful career in the Law profession. He was an attorney with the Law firm of Monheimer, VanFredenberg and Smith; Smith, Smart, Hancock and Tabler; and finally Graham & Dunn. An expert in Commercial Real Estate law, Dimmitt represented some of Seattle's most prestigious Real Estate Clients and long time client Sea-First Mortgage. He loved the law and continued to practice up to the age of 88 at "command central" in his home office.
Through the years he was involved in the community through a variety of memberships and organizations including: Broadmoor Golf Club, Seattle Yacht Club, Seattle Athletic Club, Columbia Tower Club, and The Rainier Club. His other passions besides the law were golf, boating, and the University of Washington Huskies.
Dimmitt met the love of his life, Betty Jean Thompson "BJ", and they would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary September 21, 2013.
He is survived by his brother Robert Keyes Smith (Kay), his wife Betty Jean, and his children; Candice Rae Campbell, Alison Kay Hesse (Tyler), Brian Keyes Smith and Todd Dimmitt Smith. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren; Scott Raymond Holpainen (Timie-Ann Dolan), Brittney Alison Campbell, Ashley Lauren Smith and 3 great-grandchildren; Piper Tramayne, Gage Tramayne and Emmet Raymond Dolan.
We will miss his presence every day.
