Jack R. Masters, 85, passed away July 5, 2013. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday July 8th at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 9th at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Hills Christian Church, 6347 Leavenworth Rd., Kansas City, Kansas. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Emporia State University in care of the Education Department.
Jack was the eldest of 8 children born to Theodore and Lillian Masters in Altoona, KS on May 19, 1928. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the United States Army. Jack earned both a BS and MS of Business at Emporia State University and a MS of Education Administration at Kansas University.
He was a high school business teacher for 35 years; 32 of the years being at Washington High School in Kansas City, KS and taught part time at KCK Community College. He was a Past Master of the Roger E. Sherman Masonic Lodge and a member of Eastern Star, York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite, Abdallah Shrine and American Legion VFW. He was a member of the Sunset Hills Christian Church. Jack was a die-hard KC Royals, KU Jayhawks and KC Chiefs fan and loved attending games or watching them on TV.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Trecia, in 1987 and also his sister. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his dearest friend, help-mate, companion, and wife Joyce E. Klifar, 3 step children, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many family and friends.
